Sparkles and Sunshine: April 2018

Spring Date Idea: Baseball Game

Monday, April 30, 2018

Happy Monday!

I'll be honest, I'm not happy that it's already Monday again. I could really use one more day of relaxation. Who's with me?! 😂 Yesterday had some funny moments though. One of them being good ol' Mr. King. So, I gave him a bath yesterday, brushed out his mane and tail, and made him look super handsome right? Well, when I went to put him back out in his pasture, he looked at me once we were in, looked at the dirt and I was like "Don't you do it." He then proceeded to walk around in a circle near the dirt and I said again: "King, don't you dare" and of course seconds later he dropped down and started rolling in the dirt. I just sat there and sighed and then giggled to myself. I love how every horse has their own unique personality, especially Mr. King. Also, boys will be boys too right?!  😂

Today I'm sharing my next date idea from my spring date series! Growing up, I always went to baseball games. One of my friends from back home has been playing since he could walk! I would always go to his games with his parents and my school's games. Needless to say, baseball is one of my favorite sports! Now that it's spring, it means that the season is officially here! Here in Jacksonville, we don't have an official major league team but we do have a minor league team called the Jumbo Shrimp. Let me just say that I am not happy about the name.  😂  We used to be called the Suns which was perfect because you know, Florida. The team name was changed last year I believe and I recently heard why. Not sure if this is true, but I heard that teams with really stupid names have better luck. This didn't seem to be the case at the game we attended but the season just started so we'll see won't we Shrimp!

Every city has their own team whether it's major league, minor league or even collegiate! This is such a fun idea to do with friends or your significant other for date night. Tickets for collegiate or minor league games are usually really inexpensive. At the shrimp game I believe you could get dugout seats for only like $18. Super cheap! Every field has it's own layout too. We went during opening week which was SUPER busy and I wouldn't recommend getting tickets the same day or a day before. The options you have will be limited.

Our seats were towards the outfield past first base which wasn't too bad. You really can't go wrong with seats at a baseball game because the team uses the entire field. I will say that my favorite seats are behind home plate! Every field has different prices but you can look up any team's schedule and tickets online.

Click here for information on minor league teams.
Click here for information on major league teams.

Now, the best part about sporting events is the food. I I right or am I right? Now, we all know that there is nothing healthy about it and that's the best part! My favorite sporting game foods are pretzels, chicken tenders, and fries. I'm not much of a beer drinker so Chandler always makes sure that that food group is taken care of. 😂

What's cool is that most sporting events have theme nights or will have different people working the game depending on what they have planned out for the season. This game was cool because the chiefs mess (U.S. Navy) was working the concessions which was fun for Chandler.

If you decide to go to a game anytime soon I hope you have the best time! I'd love to hear how it went! ☺️

Weekly Round Up

Happy Friday!

How was everyone's week?! I'm hoping it was good! This weekend is a pretty chill one for Chandler and I which sounds great to me! On Sunday, I am headed to help out at the stable and am really excited as usual. If you've been following along on my Instagram stories when I go to the stable, you all know about Mr. King. King is a retired horse there that I try to give extra special attention to.

He doesn't get as much attention anymore since he's retired so every week I make sure to groom him, give him treats and love on him a ton. I know he's starting to remember me more too because every time I see him now he rubs his head all over me and I basically cry every time because of how sweet it is. I'm so emotional! 😂 P.S. I just kind of cried thinking about it! Haha!

I noticed last week that he was pretty dirty too! I swear, horses get just as dirty as dogs which I never expected! I was wearing a pink shirt and just from grooming him and being next to him I had a ton of black dirt spots all over me. I couldn't help but laugh! So, I told my trainer that when I come this week that I'm giving him a bath and she just laughed!

I tried to add extra articles this week for you all and I hope you like them! There's some amazing people featured here this week!

Chandler loves lasagna. I think his grandma has a family recipe that she makes for him when she sees him. You all know I love pasta but have been trying to make some healthier choices. While that's 100% true, I also just ate Bagel Bites. Life's too short haha! Anyways, damn delicious shared a recipe for zucchini lasagna roll ups that looks pretty good! See it below.

So, I'll be honest. When I saw this recipe I was like man that looks good but I have no idea what two of the words are in the title. Haha! This recipe is vegan and can be gluten free if needed! Now for some sad news. :( If you haven't heard, Avicii, the famous Swedish DJ was found dead and the entire world is devastated. When it was first announced, the family didn't release much information. Now, a second official statement is out with more information that gives us a little insight as to what could have happened. The family is insisting on privacy during this hard time, which is completely normal. I am asking as well that everyone respect their decision for this since no one wants to be bombarded in such a tough time.

April BarkBox

Thursday, April 26, 2018

Happy Thursday!

How is everyone doing?! Diesel received his April BarkBox the other week and oh my goodness was it cute! The theme of this month was pirate/buried treasure and it was filled with so many fun items! Scroll down to see more.

This month, the two toys were an Ahowl Matey Bottle and Redbird the Parrot. How cute is that? Both of them have squeakers and one has a rope toy that moves back and forth. Perfect for tug of war!

Next, were the two bags of treats and chew. He received the Fish 'n' Chips Medley and Lamb Ho! I will confidently say that the fish treats have a strong fish smell to them. Chandler made a comment immediately after opening the bag haha! Of course they were Diesel's favorite. 😂 For some reason though, he didn't care too much for the lamb treats. He eats just about anything but he like those. He did love his chew though! He eat it in I think one minute. The flavor was liver and it was very light and airy!

Last but not least, my favorite part of the entire box was a secret surprise inside of the bottle toy. On the "paper" was a secret message that basically said if you text bottle to this "number", you would get a message back. So of course I had to do it! It was absolutely hilarious. Check out the screenshots from the conversation below!

I will say that this is my favorite BarkBox to date because of this added special feature! BarkBox really took it up a notch. If you haven't tried BarkBox yet I highly recommend it!

Why Liketoknowit Changed + Tassel Swimsuit Cover-Up

Happy Monday!

I once shared that I work in marketing with a focus on paid social media advertising, remarketing, and display. I'm not sure if many people know this, but Facebook has been going through many changes to their privacy policy because of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. If you haven't heard of this, here's an article that has more information: A Researchers Quiz App Deceptively Harvested Data For Political Research Facebook Alleges.

Basically, Facebook is cracking down to make sure that data is not released like that again and to ensure that the user's who are on Facebook are more aware of the potential advertisements they can see. Because of this, Facebook is revisiting relationships with any "third-parties" who work with them, i.e. Reward Style/Like to Know it. Their new privacy rules are why you will no longer receive emails from Like to Know it.

While this may be frustrating for many, the positive is that you can see shop mine/and other bloggers' looks featured through the Like to Know it app/website. Here's what you have to do:

  • Follow me within the Like to Know it app. Either search my blog name or click here to take you there directly.
  • To shop you can either look at the outfits I've posted (from following me) and shop instantly, or you can take a screenshot within Instagram and upload it within the app and you can shop it that way!
It's super easy, and essentially just asks you to take one step!

Now, let's talk about this cute cover-up from Red Dress Boutique! This cover-up currently comes in a one/size only option which is perfect. The overall fabric is lace and along the sleeves and edges is a fun aztec embroidery with colorful tassels.

How To Stop Juggling A Million Things At Once

Monday, April 23, 2018

Happy Monday!

Do you ever feel like you're juggling a million things at once and you just can't catch a break? I know I feel this way all the time. I feel like women in particular struggle with this more because our minds never stop thinking about things. I've had numerous nights where I couldn't fall asleep because I had a thousand things going on in my head that I couldn't get rid of.

Today I'm sharing three ways to help you feel more at ease in your life. I know I have to remind myself of these all the time, so don't worry if you do too. Nothing happens overnight and there's always room for improvement.

1. Think about the one ball (or in this case orange) that you could drop without any consequences.

I try to do so many things at the same time all at once or maybe even in the same day when physically and mentally it isn't possible. I'll make super long to-do lists with things that could really be spread out throughout the week. I had (and still have to) take a look at everything that's on my list and ask myself three questions:

  1. Does this have to be done today?
  2. Can it be done two days from now?
  3. Is it really necessary at all?

If you answered no to the first or third question then move on to the next item on your list!

2. Learn how to delegate without criticism.

This is probably one of the biggest things I struggle with. Ever feel like someone can't do something because it isn't the way you would do it? I know I do this all the time with Chandler and I've been working really hard on this. For instance, it's awesome if you ask someone to do the dishes because you don't have time to do the dishes and the laundry, but it's not okay if you go and redo their work 10 minutes later. I was usually never that bad, unless I actually saw a ton of stuff on a dish that was missed. However, I have stopped myself from giving him a task because I didn't think he could do it solely because he took a different approach. When you think about that, it's actually pretty rude. You're basically saying that you don't have faith in them to do something even if it's really simple.

The first step to overcoming this is to look at what's on your list and what you moved from doing step one. If there's things that you want done but can't really get to, delegate those tasks to someone else! When you do, at the beginning tell them exactly what you want done, but not necessarily in the exact way that you would do it. As long as the task gets done, why does it matter?

3. Improve your communication skills, especially when you need help with things.

People aren't mind readers yet we all think they are! I know I always wait for Chandler to do something because in my mind it's the most obvious thing in the world, but to him it's not. People don't know that when you get home you do the trash first, then this, then that especially if they're not even home when you do it! Make a point to sit down and have a conversation with whoever you're delegating tasks too and let them know that you need with X,Y, and Z this week and that if they do those, you'll be able to do A, B, & C without any stress!

I hope these three points help you and if you have any questions or have any additional ideas, I would love to hear them in the comments below!

Happy Friday!!!

My weekend plans got switched up a little bit this weekend because it's supposed to pour all day Sunday. So, when I usually go to the stable on Sunday's, this week I'm going tomorrow which is fine by me! 😊 What are you guys up to this weekend?! I'd love to hear in the comments below!

The one type of food that I have NEVER been picky about is salsa. I love salsa so much and will try practically any kind. The only kind I don't usually like is the chunky jar kind. However, the mild one from Aldi is amazing. Any who, I have been wanting to try to make my own lately, so I got super excited when I saw this red salsa recipe from Cookie and Kate this week! I definitely want to make it soon!

BuddyLove Panama Maxi Dress Palm Beach

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Happy Wednesday!

I love that beach weather is finally here. The pool at my apartment has been packed the last few weekends and the slightest hint of weather in the 70's has had the beaches packed as well. I love it! Warm weather also means I get to wear my favorite style of clothing: dresses! I think I've said it before, but I could and basically do, live in dresses. They're so feminine and a one and done piece.

This maxi dress from BuddyLove is probably one of my all time favorites. My closet is filled with bright colored pieces like this because they're just so happy to look at! Bright prints always remind me of summer and my favorite state no matter where I am. This is my first and definitely not last piece from BuddyLove and I was very happy with it. My hips are on the bigger side and I was able to wear a size small with no problems at all! The dress has adjustable straps and is super flowy at the bottom.

This dress is sold out on the actual BuddyLove website, but I linked a few other boutiques that I found that have it in stock. This dress is getting harder to find so I would shop it fast!
