Sparkles and Sunshine: September 2017

Weekly Round Up

Friday, September 29, 2017

Happy Friday everyone!

Today is my last day up north and honestly I'm pretty excited to come home. I had such a great time with all of my family and am so glad that I was able to be here. If you follow me on Twitter or saw my Instagram story, you saw that my vacation doesn't end today...because...I won tickets to the TONE IT UP TOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (! times 1 million)

I swear, if I could type a million exclamation points I would. I really wanted to go this year but it just wasn't in the budget to go. So, the other day I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and stumbled upon Adeline of Vibrant and Pure's beautiful food bowl photo and saw that she was doing a giveaway for the tone it up tour! I freaked out and was like, what are the odds that I would win? I never win anything! I immediately entered anyways because why not and the next thing I knew I WON!!!

I'm still in shock that I'm going. So, this means that, I am going to fly into Florida tonight at 10pm, will be home by 10:30 and then will be leaving at 6am for the Tampa Tone It Up Tour location! The best part is that I found a great pet friendly room that will fit Chandler and Diesel! I didn't want to be away from them another day and so the three of us are headed to Tampa for a quick getaway.

Since I could talk about my excitement for hours, I think it's best that I share my weekly round up articles before it's too late! 😂

Most of us know this first blogger as one of the most colorful gal's on Insta. Sam from AwwSam
always has the most happy, fun posts that make me smile every time I see them. This week, Sam posted the cutest, and in my opinion, most Floridian way to decorate for fall. She shared a DIY for mini lawn flamingo pumpkins! These are absolutely adorable and would be super fun to do with family and friends.

Read it here:

I recently discovered Jill of Little Black Boots and I have to say, her Instagram feed is perfection. She posted a photo of this Alice McCall romper that was absolutely stunning. It would be perfect for date night, girl's night out, or just about anything else!

View it here:

I found an inspiring article on Refinery 29 featuring Aerie's model, Iskra Lawrence. Iskra created a video that shared model tips and tricks for getting that "perfect" photo you see on Instagram. I loved how she repeatedly shared that those final photos are not reality and that every woman has flaws. It truly is crazy how just the angle and lighting can "eliminate" belly rolls even though they're still there. With social media being such a huge part of our lives, I wanted to share this as a reminder that you are beautiful and that no matter the angle, you will always be perfect!

Read it here:

I have always wanted to travel to Greece. Chandler told me that when he was in the navy, he visited Crete, Greece and absolutely loved it. When I saw Cara Jourdan's Santorini photos I instantly wanted to book a flight and just get away! At the bottom of the post (after you're done viewing all of the beautiful photos) Cara shares some of her favorite spots while she was there. If you have some serious wanderlust, you need to read this right now!

Read it here:

This week's final find was from Molly of Golly Miss Molly. She shared the cutest two piece set that is perfect for the summer heat that's still hanging around! Since it has the cutest fall colors, you'll at least kind of feel like you're dressing for fall.

Read it here:

I hope you all have had a wonderful week and thank you to everyone who has been following along on my trip up north. In case you haven't seen, head over to my Instagram to see some of my photos from my trip!

Blog posts will be coming soon!

What I've Learned From Working A 9-5 Job

Wednesday, September 27, 2017

I can’t believe I graduated from college two years ago. When I graduated, I truly did not know what life would be like afterwards. You always hear silly things like “I can’t adult today” or “being a grown-up sucks,” but no one really tells you why unless you ask. No one tells you about work life, or how hard
is to find a job, or what you need to know for paying bills, etc. I am very lucky to have two parents that helped me with whatever they could, but there was still some things that I had to learn on my own.

I’ve learned a lot about credit card debt in the past two years. The problem with credit or debit cards is that spending money is as easy as one quick swipe. Before you know it, you’ve spent everything in your checking account or you’re in the negatives. I’ve had to learn that just because I have a large credit card limit, doesn’t mean I’m supposed to spend it. My mom always says, if you can’t pay it off the next day or within the week, don’t charge it. One good way to use a credit card is for paying bills. You know when your bills come every month. Once they’re due, charge them to your card and then the next day go ahead and pay off your card.

For a short period of time, I wasn’t sure where I was going to be working. I remember getting so upset at myself when my parents told me that I could always come home and stay with them while I was looking for a job. Looking back, I shouldn’t have been so hard on myself. At the time, I felt that I was a failure if I moved back in with my parents. I thought, “I went to college, I got my degree, I did an internship, so why can’t I find a job? I’m definitely qualified…right?” Job searching after college can be hard because so many jobs are looking for candidates with at least two years of experience. I always thought “How can I get that experience if you won’t even hire me?” What I’ve learned since then is to just apply for everything you see. Now, be reasonable and don’t go after the director position right away, because to this day, even with my two years of experience, I am nowhere near ready for that type of position, nor do I know how to be in a position like that. Go after positions that you KNOW you are fully capable of doing. You never know who might hire you!

When it comes to work life, I’ve learned that I’m definitely not on the same schedule anymore. I can’t stay up until 1am, 2am, or even 3am anymore. I’m lucky if I make it until 10pm nowadays! Haha :) I didn’t know that being at a job all day could be so tiring. I’m in marketing, so it’s not like my job requires a ton of physical labor or anything, but when you’re constantly thinking and interacting with your coworkers all day, you get tired! I’ve also learned that you gain weight with a 9-5 job. When I was in college, I was walking all over campus until late hours of the night. As soon as I started my job I was sitting. All day. Every day. At my company, we do get breaks of course, and most people go on walks around the building during their breaks. I especially like to do this because it gives me a break from the computer and it gives me the opportunity to get more steps in that day. I’ve also switched to a standing desk at work. I do sit occasionally just to give myself a break, but I try to stand as much as possible.

Finally, don’t let work take over your life. In the past year, I’ve realized that work isn’t everything. It’s important to be a good employee and do your best, but you have to have a balance. When you take a lunch break, take it! Don’t do work during your lunch. Bring your favorite magazine or book to read, or work on your blog like I do. That time is your time, don’t let work take it from you. Also, when you clock out and leave for the day, unless it’s an emergency, it can wait until tomorrow. The corporation that I work for sells women’s clothing and swimwear. Whenever I was stressed or was worried that I messed something up really bad (when in reality I didn’t), my old boss would say: “Caitlin, remember, it’s only retail.” I was told that two years ago and it really stuck with me because it’s true! I wasn’t put on this earth to only market clothes. I’m here to enjoy my life with my family, friends, my pets and everything else that life has to offer.

What have you learned since graduation? Or, are you about to graduate and are curious about other topics? I’d love to hear about either in the comments below!

Girl Power

Monday, September 25, 2017

Hello boss babes!

I have been obsessed with Freeform's newest show, The Bold Type. If you haven't seen it, this series is based on life at Cosmopolitan magazine and features three millennial women who are just trying to make it in their careers at their dream job, Scarlett Magazine. This show inspires and empowers me so much every time I watch it because each girl is a different side of me.

Kat - She speaks up for herself and for what she believes is right.

Sutton - She has incredible determination to get her dream job in fashion.

Jane - She is willing to take risks, even if that means stepping away from her safety net.

I'm not sure if this show will air for a second season, but I really hope it does. I feel like I can take on the world after every episode and the issues this show talks about are real and current to every woman in the world.

The name of this show, The Bold Type is so fitting. We should all strive to be bold, and hard working, and badass because, well, WE ARE! Sometimes I think we forget how amazing we all really are and the potential we have for ourselves and our lives.

Today, I want you to know that you are going to absolutely rock it. I know you're going to ace that exam, finish that presentation, kill it at that board meeting, and of course, get that promotion and recognition you've been working towards for a long time. I see your potential and so does everyone else.

So grab your girl gang a.k.a. fellow boss babes and conquer the world.

I challenge you to be the bold type.

FabFitFun Fall Box 2017

Thursday, September 21, 2017

Happy Fall Ya'll!

I know it's one day away but I've been waiting weeks to say that! :P I just got my fall FabFitFun box and I'm super excited! I have been subscribed to FabFitFun since last year and have been pleasantly surprised each time. This box included my first choice item: the Molr Dental Club Carbon Coconut Teeth Whitening Powder & Toothbrush.

I chose this item because I've always wanted to try a teeth whitening kit! When they did the spoiler for it on their Instagram, it did make me laugh because they show the girl with this gross black mouth, which is of course how it's supposed to look. It just made me giggle! :P

This box included the following items:

  • Mer Sea Cozy Wrap
    • With three beautiful colors to pick from, this soft scarf is going to be perfect for fall/winter. I got the pink color in my box...which did you get? I loved the pink or the aqua-green color. Fun fact about Mer Sea - they have actually teamed up with, a charity that works to provide water to families in developing countries.
  • Private Party Gym Bag
    • Ok, now this item is absolutely hilarious! I loved every single option that was revealed in the spoilers and am so happy with mine - "Meet me at the barre." It's honestly the perfect size gym bag and I can't wait to use it!
  • TreStiQue Matte Color & Shiny Balm Lip Crayon
    • I usually don't wear make-up, but when I do it's usually something on my eyes or lips. I'm a big fan of the classic red lip. I love pairing it with an all black look or any party look. When I opened my box and saw that my lip crayon was the perfect shade of red, I got excited! :)
  • The JetSet Diaries Beanie in Black  (also came in pink!)
    • I love beanies, but I never think to buy one. In Florida, I don't have too many chances to wear them...however I had this one pink Roxy beanie for YEARS that I loved. Not sure what happened to it, but I'm super excited to have one again.
  • Imm Living Coxet Wire Heart Ceramic Jewelry Holder
    • Honestly this looked kind of weird to me. I love art and all but I wasn't the biggest fan of this design but that's just me. I've actually seen a lot of people say the total opposite!

  • My TagAlongs Hot & Cold Gel Pack
    • This gel pack is so cool! (Get it?) :) Not only does this pack give you the option for hot or cold therapy, it also has a hilarious quote from a famous OutKast song: "What's cooler than being cool?" :)
  • Whish Renewing Mud Mask
    • I have actually never tried a mud mask before. What's cool about this one is that it uses natural ingredients such as aloe to make your skin feel super soft!
  • Deco Miami Lavendar Cuticle Oil
    • I love how FabFitFun described this as product as putting the "cute back in cuticles!" This product actually works to make your cuticles feel nice and soft! Definitely something I don't do that I totally should.
  • Cottonelle Fresh Care Flushable Cleansing Cloths
    • All of my Floridians know that the heat is still something fierce here and I seriously need help staying cool and fresh. I was excited to see these wipes because they're the perfect size to put in my bag and go anywhere. And, since they are flushable, I can freshen up and flush immediately!

With this box I did have an add on credit. I've never tried add on's before mainly because I didn't want to spend too much money on something I had never heard of or thought I needed. That was until I saw this item on the list! I LOVE the brand Living Proof. I currently have a small bottle of their No Frizz Nourishing Oil and it works like a charm! I've never had a frizz product actually work on my hair until I found this.

The product that I am featuring here is used to detangle, hydrate and protect your hair from heat up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. I personally am awful about using a heat protectant spray when I straighten or curl my hair. I also get tangles SUPER easily. I literally can walk outside and my hair will have 20 knots all of a sudden. I'm really excited to try this product and have no doubt that it will be just as great as my frizz oil!

That about wraps it up for my FabFitFun box post! As you can see, Diesel loved it too! :)

I hope you all are having a great week and I can't wait to share my weekly round up with you tomorrow! :)

Summer Date Series - Evening At The Beach + What I've Learned From Being In A Committed Relationship

Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I have had a great week so far. I've worked on some really great content for the blog, and I'm flying to North Carolina on Friday for my aunt's wedding. Not only will I get to see my aunt and soon to be uncle, but I'll also get to see my mom, my cousin that I haven't seen in years and my aunt and uncle from Germany. I don't get to see them that often so I am super excited about the week ahead and I can't wait to introduce them to you on the blog!

So, with summer "officially" coming to a close, even though it's still extremely hot here in Florida and well, everywhere haha, I wanted to end the summer date series with one of my favorite things to do: spending an evening at the beach.

P.S. I will be continuing my date series into the fall, starting with a fun activity that is really a year round thing to do. Stay tuned!

I love going to the beach in the evenings because it's not as crowded, allowing for more intimate time. The weather is also nice and cool for a long walk on the beach.

One of my favorite things to do is to sit up in a lifeguard chair because you have the best view of the beach. This is actually really fun to do at night when the stars are out because you can sit and find the constellations together. Or, if you're like me, you can get an app to help you do it! haha!

In this blog post I also wanted to talk about what I've learned from being in a committed relationship. Up until I met Chandler, I had never been in a long relationship. My longest was less than a year and I was younger which really makes a difference. I'm definitely more mature now and being in a relationship also helps to mature you.

I recently sat down with one of my coworkers who has been married for over ten years to get some advice. I asked her," how did you feel when you hit the two year mark?" I asked because I didn't know how I was supposed to feel. Obviously I'm not working hard to impress Chandler anymore, and I'm not afraid to burp or even fart in front of him. Yes, I said it. It's reality!

She said that she felt the same way that I felt which is that nice, comfortable feeling. She asked me, "is he your person'?' and I said "yes." She said "then that's all that matters! You two love each other and are just getting settled with your life." Which is so true. Chandler and I were only together six months before the navy took him to California for over a year. Then we moved in together and then we got a dog. That's a lot in two years!

The next thing I asked was "is her husband messy?" She said yes faster than Diesel eating a cookie out of my hand! I immediately felt better. She told me about how her husband leaves stuff out all the time. I felt better because I was like thank goodness it's not just my boyfriend haha! Not saying Chandler is super messy, because I don't want you all to think he's some kind of slob or something but every guy leaves some stuff out. :P

One ironic statement that she shared with me was that he isn't going to change. It's ironic because I remember my eighth grade teacher telling all the girls the same thing. I've never tried to change Chandler because I fell in love with the person that he is. But going back to the sometimes messy part or stuff like that, I just have to learn to accept it, find better ways to keep things organized and just work together as a team to do so.

The last, and most important thing she shared with me is that communication is key. This may sound obvious, and at first when she said it I was like well yeah. But then she went a little deeper with it. We talked about times where our significant others did things we didn't like and how we approached the situation verbally. She explained how he had done something once and instead of reacting right away, she actually waited until the end of the day so that she was completely cooled off and was able to handle it maturely and calmly.

This is something I know I have to work on. I have a really sweet side to me, but I also have a temper (thanks dad :P). Hearing this from her really helped because you see couples that have been together for 10 years, 20 years, even 50 years and one of the things they tell you is that you HAVE to communicate. You're going to get into arguments and there's going to be plenty of them, but, it's how you handle them that determines what happens next.

Being with Chandler has been the best two and a half years of my life and I wouldn't change a thing. We are always learning something new about each other and we are always there for each other. I know that he's my support system just as much as I am his. Never settle for average. Find someone who makes you their world, because I promise, you'll be happy you did. :)

I hope you all have loved the summer date series. Like I said above, the date series is going to continue into fall and I have some really cute ideas coming soon!

Please let me know what you thought about this post in the comments below, and if you also have any relationship tips that you have learned from being in a long relationship, I would love to hear about them and I'm sure everyone else would too!

Thanks for reading. :)

Sorority Chapter Outfit Ideas

Monday, September 18, 2017

Happy Monday!

A fact that I don't think I've shared yet about myself is that I am a sister of Alpha Chi Omega. Sorority life is filled with so many different types of events such as fraternity socials, formals, and a weekly chapter meeting.

Chapter is a meeting where all members get together and discuss important topics and upcoming events. Every sorority has different rules, but for the most part, chapter attire has a pretty universal standard. The best way I would describe it is fashionable business attire.

For instance, I would usually wear heels, wedges or flats with a dress that had straps that fit at least two fingers or if it didn't I would put a cardigan or blazer over it. Other girls would also wear nice pants and a cute top with any of those shoe options as well.

Since there are so many outfits you can wear to chapter, I wanted to share a few outfit ideas for everyone who just rushed! All of these styles are from The Copper Closet. I recently discovered this boutique and I have to say, it is definitely one to watch!

Outfit 1:

Outfit 2:

Copper Closet fun fact: All of their shoes have a heel that is 2 inches or less! Every single pair of shoes I used in these photos were extremely comfortable, and they still added that little something extra that I was looking for. In other words, when recruitment comes around, you need their shoes because your feet won't hurt as long after standing for hours in them!

Outfit 4:

Outfit 5:

I hope you all loved these outfit ideas from The Copper Closet! You can find more looks on their website and all looks featured in any of their store locations.

To learn more about this brand, check out their recent article from their NEW BLOG! It talks about the owners and how they started up not just one but two stores in two years! P.S. a third location is on the way!

I hope you all have a wonderful week and I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Weekly Round Up

Saturday, September 16, 2017

Happy Saturday everyone!

I know, I know. I usually post my weekly round up on Fridays. This week was all sorts of weird for me. First we had the hurricane which led to a short week at work, then I had a work event on Friday which really led to an even shorter week at work. I feel like this hurricane got me all messed up!

So, even though it's Saturday, I still want to share my weekly round up with you all!

This week, The Chalkboard blog featured nutritionist Jennie Miremadi. She shared some nutrition tips for college students. This advice isn't just for college students though! These tips can definitely be applied to anyone of any age!

Read it here:

Who's ready for a HUGE announcement?! Joanna Gaines and Target just announced that they are going to be collaborating and introducing their very own collection. This collection will be available in November and everyone is excited! I mean, I already have enough trouble walking into Target to get just one thing as it is, and now they're adding this? Goodbye bank account!

Read it here:

If I had the opportunity to be in New York, wearing my dream outfit...this would be it!!! I have always loved feather fashion designs. They're so fun and they add a little flirtation to any look. Make sure to check out Jessica's article today!

Read it here:

Last but not least I found this great article from Carrie Bradshaw Lied.  I love getting to learn more about the bloggers that inspire me. Especially when it is on a deeper level. Kathleen  shared a very personal article about self esteem on her blog this week that put some things into perspective. As a new blogger who works full time, it can be really hard sometimes to continue because I constantly compare myself to others who have been blogging for years and/or it is their full time job. This article reminded me that I can't do that. Instead, I have to keep working hard and know that I started this because I love it.

I hope you all had a wonderful week and if you saw any amazing articles, please share them in the comments below. I would love to read them!!! :)

Weekly Round Up

Friday, September 8, 2017

Happy Friday!

This week has been a little hard because as most of you know, hurricane Irma is approaching Florida. The frustrating part is this storm keeps changing it's path almost every two hours, making it super hard to track. As of right now, the storm is supposed to begin hitting Florida this weekend and Jacksonville will be hit on Monday. Please keep my family and all of Florida in your prayers as we take on Irma. This will be Diesel's first hurricane so I'm hoping he stays calm like he has in other storms.

On that note, I want everyone to know that I will be behind in my posting due to the storm. The combination of weather, evacuations and other factors leading up to the storm have really put a damper on my photoshoots and blogging. I will return after the storm has passed and I'm looking forward to doing so. is this week's weekly round up post!

Annebelle from Viva Luxury posted this absolutely stunning blog post from her last day in Napa and it instantly gave me the travel bug. I've seen beautiful pictures of Napa Valley in the past, but these definitely top them! If you're looking to cure your wanderlust, you have to check out this post!

For all of my bachelor nation followers, I'm sure you all saw the big announcement regarding who the next bachelor is. I know I speak for many when I say I was disappointed. :( I was really hoping for Peter or even Luke from Jojo's season. I mean come on, what's better than a country boy with a good heart? Buzzfeed put together a hilarious article filled with tweets from people who had the same reaction as myself.

One of my favorite bloggers, Jennifer Lake from Style Charade shared such a pretty blue dress this week! Not only does Jennifer have great style, but her Instagram photos and captions on her photos are 😂👌. They are so clever, funny, and instantly put a smile on my face every time I see one. You know a Jennifer Lake photo the second you see it when you're scrolling through your feed and that is definitely something for her to be proud of!

Right now, so many of my favorite fellow bloggers are in NYC for fashion week and I have been loving the outfit inspo. Seriously! Below are some of my favorite outfits that I've seen so far:

I hope you loved this week's weekly round up post! Again, thank you in advance for understanding my situation for the next week or so. I can't wait to share some great content that I have coming soon!

Summer Date Series - Day at the Zoo

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Good morning!

How was everyone's Labor Day weekend? Chandler and I spent the weekend unpacking (still haha) and we took Diesel to Dogwood Park where he had an absolute blast as always! For all of my Jacksonville natives, if you haven't been to this dog park yet, you have to go!

This week's summer date idea is one that can be done any time of the year and it's fun for the whole family. I hope you're excited because today, we're headed to the zoo! I love the zoo because every state has one (and they're not just in large cities), it's a fun way to see all of your favorite animals, and it usually isn't that expensive to go to.

Every Zoo has different attractions. The Jacksonville Zoo offers giraffe feeding, a fun train, 4D theater, a cute carousel and more! When we went to feed the giraffes, this older giraffe kept hogging the whole feeding area. Fun fact: if one giraffe is being fed, the others will not approach it because the giraffe will shove them away. The older giraffe was twenty years old which is actually really old for a giraffe!

Since he was also full, we ended up coming back to try to feed them later in the day and were able to feed this adorable baby. It's crazy how this giant animal is still super young. I look at Diesel and I think he's huge for his age and then I see this giraffe and I'm like.....yeah....haha :)

Of course I had to hop on the carousel. I have loved carousels since I was little and so as soon as I saw this one I got super excited!

Now, I have to share with you all a photo of me with my favorite animal in the world: the otter. I have always loved otters. So much, that my background on my computer at work is of an otter in the snow. It's SO CUTE! Otters are such cool animals and they're absolutely adorable. These guys knew I was their biggest fan too because they kept twirling all in the water being total show off's. I loved it. :)

Chandler always makes fun of me and says I like such a mean animal. But they can't all be mean....right? :)

If you're looking to bring a little fashion to the zoo, I like to add an animal themed accessory, like this flamingo bag from Charming Charlie! It's such a stand out piece and it's small enough to only carry the essentials!

Below are a few more photos from our trip:

Beautiful entrance into the Asia part of the park.

Pretty fountain near the riverside entrance

This photo was taken right as these lions started to play! I've never seen anything like it.

Now this has to be the cutest jaguar I have ever seen!

I hope you all loved this post, and of course if you see any cool date ideas that I haven't heard of, please share them in the comments below!
